Thought of the day: Why do I walk barefoot?

Because if there is something sacred and holy in the ground I walk upon, I want to be as close to it as possible. I want it to notice me, I want it to find me, I want it to fill me with wisdom and courage, accept me welcomingly into its embrace, and hear me – if not agree with me – when I have something to say. For I have always felt invisible, lost, inadequate, weak, rejected, and unheard; and for all the talk of holiness and love of gods and families, I have never felt the closeness of either.
